biography

Carma are a Scottish alternative folk duo/foursome from the Highlands of Scotland featuring:

Carmen Beaton - Vocals and Ukulele/Guitar

Kenna Ross - Keys and Harmonies

Blaire Mackenzie - Drums

John Mckenzie - Bass

Described simply as “Beautiful” by TV presenter David Farrell, the band have been building a reputation that had the Press and Journal foreseeing big things for the act. They have not disappointed.

Originally formed by friends Carmen Beaton and Kenna Ross in 2016, the band include influences such as First Aid Kit, Birdie and Rachel Sermanni. Eager to carve their own sound, Carma clearly have an alternative folk feel sprinkled with a touch of pop as seen in this year release ‘A +G’ and on their debut EP ‘Serendipity’.

Both Carmen and Kenna have been studying music for a number of years and bring their own individuality to their compositions.  Carmen’s heart searing lyrics as she shares her life stories and Kenna’s sweeping piano blend and meander, the music of the two joining naturally together.

Recently they have been joined by Blair Mackenzie and John Mckenzie from ‘Gordon James and the Power’ as they experiment with growing and developing a sound which is at home in smaller intimate venues or on larger platforms such as the Hothouse Stage in Belladrum.

Carma have performed at a wide array of festivals with highlights including Belladrum, XpoNorth and Celtic Connections. At the latter their 2017 performance earned them the title of one of the hottest newcomers.

The band have been keen to bring their music to audiences with their 12 date 2018 tour taking them to venues across Scotland including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness.
